Calvinism’s TULIP tenets:

  • Total depravity
  • Unconditional election
  • Limited atonement
  • Irresistible grace
  • Perseverance of the saints

Calvinism has been spread by the:

  • Huguenots (France, an alteration of Swiss Ger. Eidgenoss “confederate,” from M.H.G. eitgenoze, from eit “oath” + genoze “comrade” (related to O.E. geneat “comrade, companion”). The form of the French word probably altered by association with Hugues Besançon, leader of the Genevan partisans. In France, applied generally to French Protestants because Geneva was a Calvinist center).
  • Waldensians (Italy, Peter Waldo).
  • Plymouth Colony Puritan Pilgrims, Brethren.
  • Congregationalists.
  • Presbyterians.
  • Protestants generally.
  • Mormonism?
